Education

Switzerland has an excellent state school system. The majority of Swiss school children benefit from public school education at no cost. In addition to the state school, the Basel region also offers numerous private schools. In Switzerland children usually start compulsory school at the age of six. Children usually attend kindergarten two years before beginning school. Child care facilities for small children outside the home include crèches, playgroups and daycare centers.
